Holidays in Amorgos Greece
The Greek island of Amorgos is probably the most unique and exquisite inside the Aegean. It is located within the Southern Cyclades near the nearby islands of Ios and Naxos.

Amorgos is one that has stayed virtually untouched over time, and is a vacation spot that you can enjoy organic beauty and charm. It has some great beaches and the traditional architecture of the white houses against a backdrop of blue sea and sky make it a great place for a relaxing and peaceful holiday in Greece. The beauty of Amorgos is the thing that inspired Luc Besson the renowned filmmaker to film scenes of his film "The Big Blue" at the gorgeous beach of Agia Anna.

The most famous landmark of Amorgos is the monastery of Hozoviotissa, which is found on the slopes of
rock looking out over the blue waters and where you can enjoy some breathtaking views. The monastery starts back to the 11th century and is a short distance outside the capital town of Chora.

Chora is certainly a lovely village and a perfect location to wander around and enjoy the traditional setting. There are many other villages in Amorgos that are definitely worth checking out if you have the chance. There are also numerous places of interest on the island including the ancient Monan settlement, the traditional Cycladic windmills and many more.

The island also has some great beaches that are great for a refreshing swim during the hot summer months. Amorgos is a great destination for those who would like to get away from it all and revel in some peace and rest.

Visitors to Amorgos will find a great variety of accommodation including studios and apartments that are suitable for families visiting Amorgos. You will find a lot of the accommodation in the capital town of Chora as well as the two ports of Katapola and Aegialis, which are charming places to stay when coming to the island.

If you would like to sample a genuine Greek island getaway then Amorgos is the best place for you and has much to offer.
